In Memory

Jimmy Sloan

Jimmy Gary Sloan

Jimmy Gary Sloan, 76, of Versailles, Ky., a member of the Norman High School class of 1966, passed away on Monday, Nov. 4, 2024. He was born to Forrest Sloan and Anna M. Smith on July 18, 1948 in Norman, Okla.

He was the husband of 54 years to Sharon Goodlett Sloan, and the father of Rebecca Valentine and Emily Johnson (Brandin). Jimmy is known as Daddo to eight grandchildren, including Elizabeth, Isabelle, Gabrielle and Lillian (Rebecca) and Natalie, Eli, Blakely and Tyler (Emily and Brandin). He is a loving brother to Diana Sloan and a special uncle to Scott Goodlett (Anna). Along with his parents, he is proceeded in death by his son, Darren Craig Sloan.

Jimmy worked at the U.S. Post Office for 23 years and retired in 2009. He joined the U.S. Marines after graduating from Norman High School, serving two years, one of which was in Vietnam. In 1976, he joined the Kentucky National Guard Helicopter Ambulance Division, where he served for 18 years until his retirement in 1994.He was a man of honor, a quiet, warrior who was faithful to God, family, friends, church and country.

He was steadfast and true, honest with loved ones and strangers alike, never wanting to take advantage of anyone. He could fix just about anything and do so with humility, never attributing to himself how creative and smart he really was. He worked hard to provide a home where his children and grandchildren would always know they were welcome, safe and secure. Whether it be working on projects, fishing, watching car races, going to the beach or lake, quiet lessons were always taking place. Lessons on commitment, forgiveness, humility, and grace were laced with fun and relaxation, making unforgettable memories.

During the darkest hours of his life of losing his son, he remained a steadfast pillar, never blaming God, remaining strong and steady for his family while navigating his unimaginable grief.

Funeral services will be held Monday, Nov.11, 2024, at King's Way Church in Versailles. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m., with the service beginning at 4 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Dale K. Graham Veterans Foundation or to the Tunnels to Towers Foundation.
