Jack Taylor

Jack Taylor

Jack Taylor, a member of the Norman High Class of 1966, passed away at age 70 on Thursday, Dec. 7, 2017, due to complications stemming from a heart attack he had suffered weeks before.

Jack was born in Norman, Okla., on July 12, 1947 to parents Milton Lester Taylor and Elsie Beatrice (Thompson) Taylor. After graduating from Norman High School in 1966, he received his B.A. and M.B.A. from the University of Oklahoma. He also served in the U.S. Army and went on to earn his CPA.

He worked tirelessly his entire career within the oil & gas industry in Oklahoma and Houston, Texas, before retiring to the peaceful life back home in Norman. He enjoyed his time cheering for his beloved Sooners at various University of Oklahoma sporting events and riding his Harley. He also loved traveling to Europe and within the United States to watch Formula One races. He enjoyed life and was always ready for new adventures.

Jack was a loving, generous, and brilliant man with a sharp sense of humor. He was adored by everyone he met, but loved most of all by his wife of 44 years, Anita Taylor; his daughter, Shannon Taylor Hodnett; and his grandson, Jack Hodnett. His loving and devoted family also includes mother-in-law, Audrey Moak; son-in-law, Jeffrey Hodnett; and great-nephews Dan and Kyler Tucci, who were more like grandsons to him.

Jack's circle of friends was lifelong and spread out across the country. They each meant a lot to him and he treasured all of the good times they shared. His beautiful memory will be held close to our hearts always and he will be greatly missed.

A celebration of Jack's life will be held August 4, 2018, in Houston.

Jack was a great friend who I ran in to off and on where we worked out after he recently moved back to Norman. I'm very saddened by this news, which has caught me by completely by supprise. One thing I remember about Jack is he had a pet wolf growing up. A real wolf, not one of those hybrid part dog animals. And completely tame.

I'm very sorry to learn of Jack's passing.

We became good friends in high school while running track together. I could easily identify him from behind because he was blazingly fast out of the blocks. Sure glad he was on our team!

Rest in peace my friend.

I’m saddened to learn of Jack’s passing. Jack was always one of the good days who was friendly and fun. It was great that he had moved back to Norman, but he is gone way too soon. Jack will be missed by our class so much. Rest In Peace my friend.

Really sorry to hear this.  Jack and I got to catch up a bit at the last class reunion, and it was great to see him again.  We knew each other mostly from football practice on the lower rungs and as we both navigated the OU College of Business.  I was always glad for his commiseration and good humor.  And a bit of mischief in Mr. Morris' physics class.  A generally good guy and without malice, and that goes a long way.

Jack and I got to be good friends in high school. Because we had the same last name, we were always in line together( from enrollment to graduation). Every time our class had to line in alpha order, he would wait for me, telling me he would always be ahead of me. Once again he is ahead of me, leaving me with  a heavy heart and many great memories! Rest In Peace my friend.

Jack was one of the first kids I met when I moved here from Arizona. We lived close to each other, I lived on Tonawa & Crawford. Used to take him for some rides on my motorcycle. I will miss him, he was such a great person. We hung out at my house since my mom worked until 11 or midnight.
