Poldi Horosz (Coburn)

Poldi Horosz Coburn

Poldi Horosz Coburn, 61 of Norman died Oct. 1, 2009 after a long illness. Her immediate family was by her side.

She was born Poldi Ida Horosz in Johnstown, Pennsylvania on March 27, 1948, the daughter of Dr. William Horosz and Ida (Bagu) Horosz. She attended schools in Norman from 5th grade through undergraduate school at Oklahoma University and was a member of the Norman High School class of 1966.

After College, Poldi traveled to Greece, Lebanon and Cyprus where she modeled for the Ford Capri car, sold heavily in Europe at the time. She also worked for the Nestle's distributor and generally enjoyed the culture and the people of Cyprus and the Middle East for the next five years.

It was during her time in Cyprus that she met her future Husband, Richard Coburn, who was there working for the State Department. They were married not long after she returned to the United States after the War in Cyprus.

After settling in Massachusetts, she was in the antique business. Her zesty personable friendly demeanor helped her become a well established dealer known throughout the region.

Poldi was also a lover and promoter of Native American Art. She represented several artists struggling to market their sculpting and paintings.

Poldi will be most remembered for her generous gift of self, making each feel touched by someone who cared deeply about everyone and life itself. We're all thankful for our time with Poldi!

She is survived by her husband of 31 years, Richard Coburn of Norman; one daughter, Stephanie Laura, husband John Tetreault and two grandchildren, Bill and Laura Tetreault of Sterling, Mass.; nephews Damien John Horosz, wife Connie and children Kailey, Isabel and Levi of Olathe, Kan.; Lorin Kenyon Horosz, wife Anastasia and daughter Veronica of San Francisco, CA; niece Alys Dawn, husband Bill Snyder and daughters Kamryn and Maya Snyder of Shawnee, Kan.; a special cousin, Charlotte, of Newark, Del.; and cousins Robert and Denny Cresswell, Stewart and Jamie Wallace and Sherry Dawes.

Poldi is also survived by her very beloved 96 year old Great Uncle, Zoltan Antal and his daughter Zolinda Kiriakidis of Vintondale, Penn.

She was preceded in death by her brother, David William Horosz of Shawnee, Kan., her parents, Dr. William and Ida Horosz, her in-laws Francis and Esther Coburn of Manchester, Vermont, and cousin Robin Wallace of Chicago, Ill.

Just saw this today. I remember Poldi, not well, just as classmates. After graduation, I attended the US Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point on Long island.  While I was on a date walking in Central Park. My date and I were approached by two young women, and one of them was Poldi. I didn't recognize her, but she asked me if I was Gary Adams from Norman, Oklahoma. I asked her what she was doing in NYC, and she replied that she wanted to do something different and came East. Reading her story, she certainly did have an interesting life. Just thougght I'd mention this little coincidence.

Poldi and I were good friends in high school but I never saw her after that.  It makes me sad to see that she died so young, but I am glad to read that she had a good life and got to travel and to have children and grandkids.
