Joe David Edmonds
Joe David Edmonds, 78, of Norman, Okla., a member of the Norman High School class of 1966, passed away on November 18, 2024, to be with the Lord. He was born on August 13, 1946, in Sherman, Texas, to Charlie and Rachel Edmonds.
Joe grew up in Van Alstyne, Texas, before moving to Norman in the mid-1960s, and upon graduating from Norman High in 1966, went on to attend Grayson County College. Joe then proudly served as a soldier in the United States Army from 1967-1969 and was a Vietnam War veteran. After his service, he spent over 35 years as a machinist with York International/Johnson Controls.
In his free time, Joe found joy in a variety of hobbies. He loved listening to the Golden Oldies, especially music from the 1950s and 1960s, while tinkering in the garage, or doing yard work, and he enjoyed watching sitcoms, particularly Everybody Loves Raymond and Third Rock From The Sun, along with his old Western movies and shows. He especially cherished time fishing, hunting, and most of all, spending time with his family.
Joe married the love of his life, Sharon J. Harmon, also a member of the Norman High class of 1966, on June 29, 1968. Together, they shared 56 wonderful years of marriage. Joe was a man with a heart for others, a love for the great outdoors, and an unwavering work ethic. He instilled in his family the importance of faith, kindness to others, and living a life in the spirit of Christ. He lived by the words of 1 Corinthians 13:4-13, reflecting his genuine heart for others.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Rachel Edmonds; his sister, Charlene Edmonds; his sister in law, Melva Gardner; and his nephew, Eric Harmon. He is survived by his wife, Sharon, of the home; his son, Steve Edmonds and wife Sharon, of Blanchard, OK; his daughter, Amy Edmonds, of Norman, OK; his grandsons, Zeke Elliott and wife Madison, of Perkins, OK, and Gunner Elliott, of Blanchard, OK; his cousins Gwen Denton, of Texas, and Wayne and wife Dorthy Lay, of Texas; brothers in law Larry Gardner and wife Cathey of Norman, Jerry Harmon and wife Marylin, of Norman, and Bob Harmon of Norman; his nieces, Christina Marshall and husband Cameron, of Norman, Jennifer Gardner Burk and husband Kent, of Norman, Angie Gardner Jackson and her husband, of Texas, and Tricia Harmon, of Norman.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Nurse Gaye Roberts from Loving Care Hospice for the exceptional care she provided to Joe, as well as, Julie and Connie.
In remembrance of Joe, the family shares the words of 1 Corinthians 13:4-13:
"Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. For we know in part and we prophesy in part, but when completeness comes, what is in part disappears. When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me. For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known. And now these three remain: faith, hope, and love. But the greatest of these is love." https://www.dignitymemorial.com/obituaries/norman-ok/joe-edmonds-12084688
